Outline Itinerary:DAY 01 AIRPORT/MEDAN – BERASTAGI (-/L/D)Upon arrival at the airport, greet and proceed for Medan City tour visiting the Great Mosque, Sultan’s Palace, which belonged to the royal families of
the Malay Tribe, Chinese Temple, the market place and the crocodile farm with more than 1000 crocodiles. After lunch, proceed the drive on the forested foothills of the Bukit Barisan where s-turns provides panoramic view to the delightfully cool and picturesque town of Berastagi through the Nature Reserved of Sibolangit, which lies on an escarpment overlooking the lowlands with en-route stop at scenic view and Lau Debuk Debuk a hot sulphur spring to enjoy a well earned soak in the steaming sulphur laden water. Accommodation and dinner are provided at the hotel in Berastagi.
DAY 02 BERASTAGI – PARAPAT – SAMOSIR (B/L/D)Breakfast at the hotel. Then drive on the scenic back road across the Karo Plateau to Parapat that skirts the northeastern edge of the Toba caldera with stops en-route at fruit market selling wonderfully fresh fruits, flowers and vegetables, Lingga Village to see a glimpse of the way of life of the Karo Batak Tribe and their typical houses with open floorplan in which eight related families live together under a single upswept or rectangular roof of ijuk thatch, Tongging Hill to view the Northern part of Lake Toba and Sipisopiso Waterfall, and also a visit to Pematang Purba to see the long house (Ruma Bolon) of the Simalungun Batak tribe. On arrival in Parapat, cruising on Lake Toba to the central isle of Samosir where colorful Toba Batak villages cling to the shore. Accommodation and dinner at the hotel on Samosir Island.
Day 03 LAKE TOBA CRUISE (B/L/D)Breakfast at the hotel. A day tour by boat. Inland, visit to Ambarita Village to see the stone furniture as the remnant of the megalithic culture of the Toba Batak, Simanindo Village to see the long house of the Toba Batak King, which now becomes a museum, and a chance to watch Toba Batak folk dance that performed by the villagers, Tao Island for a brief respite and swim in the tranquil water of Lake Toba. Lunch en route. Then proceed by boat to Tomok Village where carved statues stand in an ancient graveyard as memorial to the kings of bygone days, and chance to hunt souvenir. Dinner and accommodation at hotel.
Day 04 SAMOSIR/PARAPAT – SIPIROK/PADANG SIDEMPUAN (B/L/D)After breakfast, cruising on the lake back to Parapat. On arrival, drive south as the highway winds up into Bukit Barisan mountains range, which affords rewarding views back across the lake and more hospitable landscape of rice fields against a backdrop of a primary forest dotted with small villages, which are set back off the road and superbly decorated adat houses in clumps of bamboo to Padang Sidempuan; the main market town and administrative center of South tapanuli. En-route stop at Lumban Binanga; an example of traditional adat building with animistic, anthropomorphic carvings & friezes, market place of Balige with has a large pasar built in the traditional Tapanuli style, Tarutung, a small town located in Silindung Valley and other scenic views. Lunch enroute. Accommodation and dinner at hotel in Padang Sidempuan.
Day 05 PADANG SIDEMPUAN – BUKITTINGGI (B/L/D)Breakfast at the hotel. Then continue driving on the same mountain range up to Bukittinggi Bukit Tinggi; the cultural capital of the Minang realm and known far & wide for the canny business sense, ubiquitous, spicy hot cuisine and matriarchal ways, where the eyes are soothed by more rice fields dotted with neat little huts and bridges by the river. Stop will be made at Usortolang Village to see the remnant of the Mandailing Batak typical houses, Purba Village; being the center of a huge Islamic Koranic School with hundreds of tiny huts, and Bonjol Village where a monument marking the equator. Lunch will be served en route. Accommodation and dinner at hotel in Bukittinggi.
Day 06 BUKITTINGGI TOUR (B/L/D)Breakfast at the hotel. Proceed to Batusangkar being a lively and scenic town surrounded by a majestic rice terraces where local countryside is dotted with Rumah Adat. En route stop at Pagaruyung to see the palace, which was rebuilt on the ruin of the bygone Pagaruyung Empire, Lima Kaum to see the stabbed and inscribed stone of the past king. Lunch en route. After lunch, drives up over the low crater wall and down to Singkarak Lake passing through the charming hilltop village of Balimbing to proceed the trip to back to Bukit Tinggi with stop at Pandai Sikat; a small village famous for its woodcarving, embroidery and loom weaving. Accommodation and dinner at the hotel.
Day 07 BUKITTINGGI – PADANG (B/L/D)After breakfast, having city sightseeing tour of Bukittinggi featuring Sianok Canyon, Fort de Kock known as one of the remnants of the Dutch Colonial Government, museum and the colorful Pasar Atas. Afterwards, drive on the road, which skirts the foot of Bukit Kapasan crosses a lush valley up to Embun Pagi view the fascinating landscape over looking the entire Lake Maninjau; a lake set inside of an ancient crater. Stop will also be made at Koto Gadang village, which is well known for its silverwork. Afterwards, driving down to Padang through deep ravines and dense forest across steep fern covered slopes that afford fantastic views of Anai Valley. Lunch en-route. Upon arrival in Padang, drive around the city of Padang passing the Provincial Museum, which was built in the traditional Minang style known as Gajah Maharam, then wander to the older parts of Padang to Kampung Cina where-turn-of-the century houses line the street, Muara District where small cargo vessels still dock and strolled with century-old warehouses loaded with fragrant cinnamon and other spices. Day 08 HOTEL – AIRPORT (B/-/-)Breakfast at the hotel. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport to catch the flight for your onward destination.
